It's the end of the Year...
Were all packing on the Holiday pounds..
Graduating from College..
Ending a long year with our jobs or trying to find a job...
Question you ask yourself is......
Where is the Money ?
Where are the jobs and opportunities?
Well as you may have experienced, you crack open a magazine or open Yahoo/MSN and you will probably hear a million statistics on what career fields to go in and how much their making.
You will probably hear me say this a thousand times but... Much of this does
Sounds Good On Paper, but it doesn't really Align with Reality
Unfortunately, if it doesn't align with that's going on in the market then it won't mean a whole lot to you or anyone reading it.
But that doesn't answer
Where are the Job Opportunities?
The truth is there is not a particular job field that holds the Gold Medal.
Luckily the younger generation(most of my readers) have a leg up right now in this market.
Your asking yourself why?
Many employers are letting go the veterans(the employees costing them the most) and hiring young educated individuals that are willing to accept a lower salary. (good for you and good for the business)So how do you ensure that your going to get hired?
Internships, Internships and Internships..
For an an employer, this is a great way to see what value you can bring to the company.
If you don't get hired off an internship then networking is the key to beat this market. Talk to everyone you know that will hook you up with a job.
As For those out of school...Fortunately, There are tons of jobs out there.
The best place to look to find a job is:
- Your old contacts from previous jobs
- Old Professors that you built relationships with
- Close friends that know your work ethic
- Job Sites (Monster, CareerBuilder, And several other)
- Great Article for Good Site (http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2342781,00.asp)
Believe me I realize we are in a recession, but there are always companies seeking new, young, educated people.
To be best prepared for a job, read my earlier blog post. Getting Hired
So while there are plenty dead end jobs(low hourly/salaries).... There are jobs that pay well..
So that begs the question..
Where is all the money? Well I can first tell you, I sure as hell don't have it lol. Okay not so funny
.... But...
The money still lays in the jobs that require the most knowledge and responsibility. Thanks captain obvious
The jobs that seem to be promising though are:
- Nursing
- IT
- Dentistry
- Accounting
- Legal
- Government based Positions
Hope you enjoyed my insight.
