The Corporate World: The things they didn't teach you

The College Years are amazing. We go to class (some don’t J), we hit up the gym, eat as much food as we can afford and make any and every excuse to throw a party.

Unfortunately, along the way they don’t tell you the weird and oddly strange predicaments you will be faced with once you get that grown up job.

As you begin to surround yourself with every type of person imaginable, you will find that you will be in situations that are unique… like:

Do you laugh at every corny joke?

Do you join in on a bashing of a co-worker?

Do you agree with everything that is said?

Is kissing ass a must?

Do I accept my Bosses Friend Request?

Should I keep my work and private life separate?

Must I attend every outside function to be in good standing?

Should I hang out with my co-workers in order to fit in?

Must I part take in the conversation when the company’s employee’s opinion is asked upon?

Can I move up in the company by doing my job well and not going over and above?

I think you guys get the idea, but I am sure a lot of you are shaking your head saying.. HELL YEA!

"I hate that or I don’t know what to do."

These are some tough decisions.

Lets tackle a few questions that stick out to me...
  • Do I accept my Bosses Friend Request?
  •  Should I keep my work and private life separate?
I guess the real question with today's social media is.. Do you want your boss to see your every action and reaction? Typically, the answer is no. Once you have crossed over that professional line to semi-friends it just gets weird and you never know when to cross back over. Its always good to have a good standing relationship, but keeping at a professional level.
  • Do you laugh at every corny joke?
  •  Do you join in on a bashing of a co-worker?
Gosh.. the average boss is trying so hard to stay modern and be young but is typically failing at every attempt, but it doesn't hurt to laugh as long as its not offensive. I would suggest staying away from bashing anyone as it may be brought up in a later date. Staying neutral is always a good way to be.
  • Must I attend every outside function to be in good standing
  • Should I hang out with my co-workers in order to fit in?
This is always tough as you will find that you spent night and day at work so you naturally develop a relationship with the surrounding people, but like I stated earlier its always best to stay neutral. Attend the company events that are required or make you feel comfortable.. outside of that, make a judgement call. Especially for those folks that are not big drinkers, typically these events surrounds themselves around alcohol and food... So keep it professional.

Mainly, I say do not compromise your beliefs or create unwanted/unneeded drama.

I am in no way perfect myself, but I have found myself asking the same questions. Would love to hear some feedback on people facing similar situations.

Thank you for being a reader!

Looking forward to the feedback!!
