So many of us want to be CEO's and be mommy’s daddy’s sister’s cousin’s boss because all the perks and fun stuff that comes along with it.
Unfortunately, none of us want to put in the time to really earn that title. We all want to sit around and watch Jersey Shore and Kardashians and earn the big cash, but sitting on the rear won’t do it.
Believe me I have learned the hard way. Watching old Save by the Bell reruns really didn’t pave an easy for me early on in college.

So suggestion to everyone who wants to be in the big boy shoes, start putting in the time now(in college if possible). Save yourself the time and stress of doing that when you get out of college. I wish I would have worked my in the industry I wanted to work in before I graduated because I honest fell in love with it, but at the same time was shown what I never want to be a part of.
i.e. Politics and management that would question your job and ability on an everyday basis. Literally waking up thinking, hmm… am I going to get fired for doing my job 110%. That was a serious wake up call!
I woke up one morning and realized I would turn into a big round unhappy man if I continued in this industry. Now most of you may think it might have been just one bad experience and it isn’t the entire industry. For the most part I would agree, but I have to say no matter how high up the corporate ladder I looked, everyone seemed overwhelmed with stress and unhappy.
So based on that ounce of feedback, I could have saved myself a bunch of stress if I had gotten my foot in the door during my collegiate years. Zach and Kelly(Saved by the Bell) didn’t tell me to go get off the couch and go work, in fact, it just encouraged me to be more of a lazy ass. Best image of this is the end of Dodgeball where Ben Stiller is eating the chicken.. Yeah that was me. Lol
Overall, putting in the time is really how you’re going to get to the top now-a-days. Not even people who are born with a silver spoon in their mouth have to work hard…. Companies have migrated more to the idea you have to earn your way, even though if you go to the right industry, the idea of being born into a position still exist.
Experience, Experience, Experience..
That’s all I ever hear anymore. I know people who have a high-school diploma getting top level jobs because they have an immense amount of experience. Companies rather hire someone who can do it their job with their eyes closed then someone they have to spend a million dollars to train and learn the craft. More and more that is becoming the reality of the big beast.
Companies are cutting back on every last expense.. and guess which expense is the steepest, the hiring process. You have people sitting around doing absolutely nothing, but in technically terms their getting trained and attempting to learn the craft. Not to mention you have to dump a bunch of money on the training and all the other fun stuff that comes with that.
Most companies never get that money back, which in some cases, people love that.
Sticking it to the man.
So if I could suggest one thing out of this whole rant: Get a job in the industry of your interest and see if it’s for you.
I finally did this after college and got the wakeup call I mentioned earlier. I love the industry just would never would in that sector.
Dream job: Would be an NBA analyst
I can look back and remember when I use to sit on the couch and watch NBA TV all day and not move an inch.
I had many sleepless nights watching Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Kareem, Karl Malone, John Stockon, Good Ole Chris Dudley(best free throw shooter ever).
I still have my dream job in mind, but I truly enjoy what I currently do. I went from working in the Sports World to working in the IT world. Talk about jumping ship. I went to the other end of the spectrum, but it’s truly a great industry to work in.
Don’t get me wrong things definitely happen for a reason, but if I can spare half of you guys out there the stress I went through then I think my job has been accomplished with this post.
P.S. Everyone must check out San Diego, Cali. And the JW Marriott in San Antonio, Texas
Signing off…
Anthony F.
