Research |
To break it down, I will be blogging a lot about my experiences in the sports world and also the business industry.
I came across the idea of writing this blog when I sat around and realized that many young professionals could learn a lot from my mistakes. (Yes, I did the dirty work for you, you can thank me later.)
As I journeyed early on in the Sports World, my initial image of the industry was: an amazing combo of:
Love and Money
Gotta be real, figured I would be sitting behind a rather large desk and barking out orders on how we can be a better team. Well I came to realize is that the Sports World is a lot of politics. By politics, I mean its all about who you know, and who knows you.
Yes, I know someone of you may know this saying quite well, as some wise men once taught me this, but it couldn't be more true.
The reality is:
- to be successful in the sports world, you must network and reach out to people you normally wouldn't find yourself associating with.
- You also must learn to swallow your pride and ego
->The 1st lesson to get out of this first blog is: BE Prepared!
You can never be too prepared for any type of situation. We naturally like to cut corners and try to find the quickest and easiest way to get by.
Unfortunately, in life, it will catch up to you. Believe me I know, I've taken about every short cut possible... Spark Notes(didn't like to read for a while), Skimming Chapters, cutting through uncle Joe's lawn ha ha jk.
But Eventually you will miss out on an important detail when you cut corners, whether in business, school, work or just in life. For example, when deciding what industry you want to work in, I recommend everyone to look up people who are currently in the industry and see how they enjoy their career.
There are some great sites out there that will let you in on alot of what people in the industry think. As a an amazing professor once told me, actually told me almost everyday, "RESEARCH".
Why Research?
Because I have to say, a majority of the people I came across at my sports job were unhappy. Unfortunately, the main reasons were money and management, which is something I will further discuss in a later blog. Another reason is they had high expectations entering the sports world. This could of all been prevented if they got a real feel of the industry. Of course, the best suggestion I can make is do your research and be prepared. If you can get a internship early on in that industry, take it and build a network.
****But remember, Be prepared for the best and Be prepared for the worst. ********
This is me signing off. Look out for my next word of advice.
